The Wanted/Brown 25 bio
(Below was written by Joe "Stoner" Pellegrino)
BROWN 25:
Craig, Frank, Richie and I went to High School together in Bridgeport,
CT. I
think it was 1978, 79 or 80. We all hung out together and listened to
the
same music, Pistols, Ramones, Deadboys Etc. We all decided that we wanted
to
do this kinda thing so we formed what was our first band. The Wanted.
We
probably knew about 4or 5 songs, 1 maybe 2 originals. Craig and I tried
to
get a gig at the Snake pit only to be told that we needed a parent present
cuz we were all minors. I don't recall any all age clubs back then.
Anyway,
we didn't want that, we wanted to party and listen to some local punk
bands
bang out some power. Lets face it we've heard of The Next, Epitome and
no
Music and wanted a taste. Well the show never happened so we settled
for
playing a Halloween party at my cousins house. After the party some
words
were exchanged between band members and that was the end of The Wanted.
A
few years went by and in I believe late 1983 Craig approched me and
said he
had something going on and needed a singer so I hooked up with him,
his
brother Mike Brown and Jeff L. We came up with the name Brown 25. 1st.
Mike&
Craigs last name and 2nd. Brown 25 was a skit (commercial) in a movie
called
The Groove Tube. The commercial product called Brown 25 was shit
(literally). Cool name for a punk band plus we were learning to play
so at
that time we sounded like shit. We did get better as time went on. Craig
played Bass, Jeff played guitar, Mike on drums and I did vocals. If
I'm not
mistaking Mike found his drum set in the garbage. It was blue and orange.
It
looked mean. We practiced at Mikes apartment in the attic and let me
tell
you it was hot up there. We would shotgun a few 16oz. beers then go
up and
rehash. It was a small room so small that I had to stand in a closet.
As
time went on we decided to invite Joey Diaz (Lost Generation of course)
to
hear us and see what his thoughts were. Are we ready to play out Joe?
He
said " why not I'll set something up". Our first real gig
was at Sal D's a
club about 50 yards from where we practiced. It was cool cuz everyone
from
the neighborhood hung out there. We opened up for Violent Children and
Young
Republicans. "Hey we're Brown 25 and we're from around the corner."
I think
we did a 20 minute set that consists of: What's Going On, S.M.B.D.,
Anti
Christ, Die Die, and I'm Leaving. We all had a great time. Thanks Joey
D.!!
Later on down the road we did shows with Lost Gen, CIA and Black Hole.
All
at Sal D's. I don't remember how long Brown 25 played together and why
we
went our seperate ways but we all remained buddys for sometime. It's
been
along time since i've seen them, but if you guys see this please contact
me
or Joe Snow at this website.
